DEEP BLUE

DEEP BLUE (2007) 96x62cm
Discharging cotton fabric, fringing, raw-edge machine-piecing, hand-quilting using hand-dyed threads, and beading, with cotton batting and backing
Price: $395

In order to create a deep blue meditative composition, I used repetition of both tone and texture. A deep-blue fabric inspired me to use discharge to obtain tonal fabrics, which were cut into strips and fringed heavily. The work is pieced so as to create deep-fringed edges all over the surface, for strong texture. The repetition is strengthened by patterns of parallel quilting stitches, in blues, and analogous colours, in a variety of threads. Everywhere the eye moves on the work, it is both the same, and yet, on closer inspection, different. A counterpoint is provided by one piece, out of hundreds, which is red.
